Emily Murdock Photography — The Blog

Obnoxious.

Yes, I realize that with this post, I am pretty much the most obnoxious photographer of all time.

Because I’ve started another blog.  Well, to be honest, I have had this other blog for a long time, but now it’s ready (kinda — there is still much work to be done).

I’ve hated the format of this current blog.  The pictures aren’t big enough and Hello! this is a photography blog.  The pictures need to be seen!  The new blog is better.  Much better.  So for about a week, this blog will stay up and then poof! you’ll have to go see the new stuff on the other blog! 🙂

See you there!

Here are a few from a session with the adorable little C…he was a little wobbly for our session, but we did get him to sit up for us!  Hooray!

{This is the look some kids give me.  I’ll do anything for a smile, and sometimes even a six-month-old can tell I’m acting a little nutty!}

{I saved my favorite for last…isn’t that the cutest little face you ever saw in all your life?  Yep.}

Here’s a little more of my sweeeet Senior Rep from Rowlett High School.  She was looking fab the day we took our session to the streets of Deep Ellum, and she had attitude to spare!  (I teased her about watching a little too much ANTM–but hey, she knew how to work the camera!!!)

I don’t know if I can narrow it down and say that I have a favorite image from this session, but I have to admit that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the one of her in front of the Texas star.  It is perfect for a Texas girl! 🙂

It’s always a little daunting to photograph the family of a fellow photographer…but what an honor!  It was so much fun to meet Jessie O’neal and her sweet family, and get some great shots at an amazing location!  Thanks again, Jessie!  And for those of you in the south end of the Valley (in Utah) be sure to check her out!  🙂

Here’s a quick sneak peek of some of my favorites from that day.

Hello!!  …And goodbye!!

Just a quick note to let you know that I will be on vacation from July 28 until August 9.  I will have my cell phone with me (214-830-0738) but will likely have less-than-reliable coverage for the next few days.  Also I don’t know how often I’ll be able to check my email, so if it’s urgent please call.  I’ll have a lot to show you when I get back —  between now and then I have six family sessions and a wedding to shoot!  This blog will be hoppin’ soon!

Enjoy the sunshine while I’m gone 🙂

P.S. When I get back, I’ll be taking appointments for the remainder of August and beyond…September and October are filling fast!  So if you’re thinking about a fall photo session, let’s talk soon!!

I’m sorry for taking so long with this.  We had the Verizon guy here for several hours yesterday and FINALLY our internet connection is working as it should.

I definitely wanted to feature some of the amazing entries we got from the Summer Shutterbug Contest.  You can see why the judges had a REALLY hard time choosing the finalists!!

These are in no particular order, but be sure to check them all out—there is some great work here!  And some really fun shots too!

7-4-09 Fourth of July 062

Fourth of July image by Susie …  Doesn’t this capture summer perfectly?!  Sparklers on the Fourth of July, it doesn’t get any more American than that 🙂

029-1

I love this shot from Alysha … excellent use of backlighting and a really fun moment caught by the camera!!

OH the darling puppy picture from Ty in Georgia.  What a picture!  I bet this little guy loves to play!!  🙂

Swan Song

Swan Song from Becca … Wow, these colors are gorgeous, Becca!  I love this shot.  And the dripping water caught by a fast shutter is divine!  Excellent shot.

Shoe2

Look at these pink shoes from Aubry‘s entry!  I can already tell what kind of personality the gal wearing these shoes would have–and she and I would be great friends 🙂  Great composition too, Aubry!

summer 023

Wow, those cheeks!  I just want to pinch them!  Thanks Becky, for this adorable entry.

Oh Sam and Nikki, this one makes me want to take a vacation!  My swimsuit is packed, just tell me where you found this gorgeous water! (The Texas coast doesn’t really have water like that…it’s much less blue…more brown than anything, actually…)

And because someone asked …. I wanted to talk a little bit about what I learned from this contest and how the images were judged.  First of all, I learned quite a bit from this contest.  The next one will be more specific about the type of picture we’re looking for.  It will have a more clear objective 🙂  I thought that we got such a great mix of types of images this time around, and I loved it.  The images were all scored by five judges (on a scale of 1-10) and then the scores were combined and the largest combined scores were our finalists.  As you saw, the contest did not only feature “professional” images.  This contest was open to all types of photographers, and I’m glad that we had some pros and also many amateurs enter the contest.  Generally speaking, our contests will continue to be open to anyone who would like to enter.  They were not scored solely upon their level of photographic proficiency, but also factored into the judging was their ability to convey the feelings of summer, as well as creativity.  I am proud of the finalists and I look forward to hosting more contests in the future!  🙂
